Ammonites were prehistoric marine creatures related to the modern
day nautilus, octopus, and squid family. They had a parrot-like beak
for crushing their prey. They are also known as cephalopods because
their head and tentacles protruded from the same opening of their
shell. There are many different species of ammonites which can be found
around the world.
This specimen is rough., unpolished, it is in
great condition. It has been professionally mounted on an stained,
routed iron wood base with a solid steel rod. The ammonite and the base
are detachable and come packed separately.
